History of Hett VillageContact Us

Welcome To The Village

Our wonderful hall started life as a WW2 Nissen Hut and in 2012 celebrated 50 years in the village. Over that time several generations have given generously of their time and skills so that today we have a fully refurbished facility with an outside defibrillator, modern heating and lighting, double glazing, a well-equipped kitchen and ancillary bar facilities. The hall is actively managed and has attained “Hallmark 3” status. We aim to ensure that the hall is always clean and presentable and that maintenance is scheduled and up to date so that it smiles its quirky welcome and extends its greeting to all fortunate enough to use it.

The hall was initially funded by public subscription of 1/- per week by the then residents taking 2 years to reach the purchase sum. Accordingly, by the 1956 Deed of Conveyance which established the hall and organisation management group [now HVHA] all residents are automatically members of HVHA by virtue of their residence. There is no subscription fee and all those 16 and over are eligible to vote on hall matters and stand for office. The Deed stipulates “and there shall forthwith be erected thereon, a village hall to be used for the advantage or benefit of the inhabitants of the Parish of Hett either gratuitously or in consideration of any money payment or on such terms as the trustees may think fit.”

Overseeing the organisation of HVHA there are 6 Trustees of whom 5 are elected at an AGM + a nominated Councillor from the Croxdale and Hett Parish Council. There is then a General Management Committee [GMC] responsible to the Trustees for day to day management and events. The GMC meets approximately every 6 weeks and the Trustees as required, though all Trustees are automatically members of the GMC. There are 3 Officers: Chair, Secretary and Treasurer + a Booking Secretary – each elected to office at an AGM.

The Hall is a licensed venue for the sale of alcohol on the premises, for music and entertainment and hot food after 23.00 hrs. Details of times available are given on the licence in the hall vestibule.
